Very happy years in the 1960's in the days of Apartheid (Seperate Development) when whites could not sit on black seats, whites could not travel on black buses, whites could not be treated by black ambulances and whites could not use black toilets.

While employed by Chew & Bowen, Consulting Engineers, I had the pleasure of working on the following schemes. Reinforced concrete water tower on The Bluff, survey for sewage works at Umhlanga Rocks, slow sand filters for water supply at Umlazi, underground sewage pumping station in Maiden Road, Durban and water reticulation in KwaMashu township.
My life away from home while living in Durban was made very easy with lots of help, advice and loving support from the Lucioli family and their relatives. During my years in South Africa. I stayed in Mansfield Road thanks to the De Voss family, rented a flat on the Berea with a friend, Kevin Lawlor and in Durban North with the Lucioli's.
